First Night 2015 button artist hosts show at Hazel Tree Interiors
October 22, 2014 – Local artist Lawrence A. Walker will be featured in the upcoming winter show, “Crayon Batiks by Lawrence A. Walker”, at Akron’s Hazel Tree Interiors. The opening reception of Hazel Tree’s newest gallery show will be held during the November Akron Artwalk, on Saturday, November 1, 2014, from 5-9pm.
Walker’s show at Hazel Tree Interiors will feature a new collection of one-of-a-kind, vividly colorful crayon batiks. Batik is a technique of manual wax-resist dyeing applied to cloth, and over the years, Walker has mastered his particular spin on the process.
Walker notes, “There are threads that run through all my two dimensional work; design, bold use of color, and both visual and/or tactile texture. Subject matter, though frequently quite visible, is subordinate to the process”.
Lawrence has been teaching and creating art since 1956. He received his BS in Graphic Design from Kent State University and began his career as an Illustrator and Graphic Designer at the Akron Beacon Journal.
He is currently serving as President of the Akron Society of Artists and has been recently commissioned to do the art work for the 2015 First Night in Akron.
The show, “Crayon Batiks by Lawrence A. Walker”, will run until January 30, 2015. The opening reception will be held from 5-9pm on Saturday, November 1, 2014.
Hazel Tree Interiors is located at 143 West Market Street in Akron. Year-round gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday, 11:00-5:30 and Saturday, 11:00-3:00
